Yesterday was Jackson’s five-year cancer anniversary.
It’s no longer a date floating in the future. It’s not in four years or two years or six months. It was yesterday.
My first goal after treatment was one year off treatment without a relapse, then two years. For the last three years, I’ve been waiting for 2015. We finally made it!
Suck it, Neuroblatoma.
Ev and I wanted to recognize such an amazing milestone. I mean, hello, we celebrate everything. We invited our family over last night for cake, ice cream sundaes and a balloon release. Each person, along with Jackson’s classmates and teachers, decorated white luminary bags, which we lit in Jackson’s honor and placed around our house. I didn’t realize how fulfilling it would be to see those bags glowing in the night.
It was another perfect occasion to wear our matching shirts. There’s nothing like taking in that sea of blue “Jackson’s Entourage” and green “Done” shirts. It just does my heart good. The blue shirts were the original design that we had printed for Jackson’s stem cell transplant. The green were for his Done party once treatment was over.
We really couldn’t have asked for a better night. Looking around at all the faces we love last night, and have supported us through so much, I could see they wanted to celebrate Jackson’s journey just as much as we did.
No more words, I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
If you’d like, leave Jackson a note here on the blog. I know he’d enjoy reading!
